This work was made and inspired by Technofossils: objects that have been made specifically for human use, which contribute to our current existence, but continue to OUT- last US in our environment. Things that are significant in our world today, but are quick to become outdated, they are a signature of our time but what makes them fossils? They are made by humans for humans and contribute nothing else to the planet, so instead of biodegrading or being recycled and made into other functioning things, they become defunct. Only to remain Lifeless in our environment millions of years in the future. Most the things we have created in one way or another will end up in landfill. However, due to stricter safety guidelines, landfills have essentially become tombs that lengthen the time it takes for things to decompose. Geologists predict landfills full of fossilized computers, smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices. The objects that will speak our past.

Using clay: a material once fired and glazed turns to a stone like matter, in which it does not decompose or change back to its natural state.

I have created this work as contribution to the Technofossils, Something that will continue to remain undestroyed through everything else, a sort of gift for the Earth in the far geological future.

I like the idea of my creations outliving me. Once I have made something in ceramic it becomes dead in its tracks it looses its malleability and is then permanent in its existence unless broken, and even then its fragments may tell a story. They will think the Technolayer more weird and wonderful, by far, than dinosaur bones.
