Blue walk.

This work was made as part of a group exhibition I did in second year called ‘Into the blue’. The connecting theme within the show was the colour blue which could be interpreted in any way we liked.

The idea for this work was inspired by my ‘walking series’ a performative practice where I set myself instructions to follow during daily walks.

Over the distance of exactly 2 miles I collected all the blue coloured items I came across; I then photocopied the material I had found on route and used it to start drawing and making collages.

Since I had been retrieving discarded and unwanted material on the streets, I didn’t want to throw away any of the paper off cuttings from my collages, it was these off cuttings that I used as guidelines/stencils to cut shapes out of flat slabs of clay. I then pieced these together to create upright structures.

Once the construction was complete and the work had been fired, I then added the Decals of my collages and drawings back onto the surface of the ceramic forms.
